Transferring Ringtones between Apple Devices

If you have an Apple device with purchased/custom ringtones, here are a few methods to transfer them to a new device

Prerequisites: Must have 2 Apple devices running iOS 5.0 or higher

Difficulty Level: Member • Nerd • Platypus 

Estimated Time: 10 Minutes

Expected Outcome: The ringtones will be transferred to your new device

Tools Required: iTunes software for purchased ringtones, and/or AnyTrans to transfer custom ringtones

Purchased Ringtones

  1. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer
  2. Locate and click on your device
  3. In the left-hand sidebar, under Settings, click Tones
  4. Make sure that the box next to Sync Tones is checked
  5. Click Sync to sync your tones back to your device

     

    Custom Ringtones

    1. Start by downloading AnyTrans, a free data transfer software here
    2. Open AnyTrans
    3. Connect both Apple devices to the computer via USB cables
    4. Click on “Device Manager” in AnyTrans
    5. Select the source iPhone
    6. Click on “More” option

    7. Scroll down and left panel screen and choose Ringtones
    8. Select the ringtones you want to transfer

    Note that AnyTrans is free for the first 30 transfers, which is normally more than enough, but if you need more, there is a paid version of the software, also available on the linked site above.
