How to get a mailbox key from USPS

If your building has a USPS owned mailbox you can get a key from USPS

Prerequisites: Your name is on the lease for the building associated with the mailbox

Estimated Time: 1 - 2 hours

Tools Required: Valid ID and a copy of your lease

Steps to Perform 

  1. Find your local USPS post office
    1. You can search for it here: https://tools.usps.com/find-location.htm
  2. Bring a valid ID and a copy of your lease
    1. Your name must be on the lease or else you cannot get a key
  3. Wait in line and ask for a mailbox key for your address
    1. You will be asked to present your lease and ID
    2. Fees will differ depending on local costs
