How to Check the Status of a Service using DownDetector

All services online use servers to run their platform. Sometimes these platforms may be experiencing some technical difficulties with their servers. This Gizmo Guide will explain how to find and understand these statuses

Prerequisites: Must know how to follow a link and know what service you are looking to check

Estimated Time: Less than 5 minutes

Expected Outcome: You will be able to ascertain the status of services to hopefully be able to see the root of an issue

Tools Required: Must have an internet connection and a device which can browse the web

Steps to Perform 

  1. Make sure you have an internet connection
    1. Sometimes the basic fix is just being connected to the internet
  2. Go to www.downdetector.com 
  3. Look on the home page for any major outages, as the site will automatically place major outages thereexample outages

  4. If you cannot see the service you're looking for, use the search bar to search for the specific service you're looking forsearch bar

  5. If the service you're searching for has a red line instead of blue, the service is most likely down, you can click on the service to bring up an expanded view to see what people are reporting the problems to be

Unfortunately, when a service is down like this, there is not much you, as an end user, can do to change it. The best thing to do is wait and check back again later to see if the service has been restored.
