How to check disk heath aka S.M.A.R.T data in Windows
Hard drives have a built-in monitoring system called S.M.A.R.T that you can use to check the health of your drive and protect your data
Prerequisites: A Windows PC with Admin access
Expected Outcome: You will be given a simplified health status of your hard drive
- Press Windows key + R
- In the Run dialog box type, cmd
- From the command prompt window type, wmic diskdrive get status
- You will then see a Status prompt that will say OK, Bad, Unknown, or Caution indicating the status of your hard drive
